My Excellent Experience by Pete Major - Chabot Alumni
I attended Chabot College from 1995 - 1997 and successfully transferred to San Diego State in 1998, an experience I’ve been reflecting on while helping my niece navigate community college. I began at Chabot unsure of my next steps - I wasn’t ready for a four-year university and wanted a fresh start away from my hometown - but during my 2½ years there, I completed my transfer requirements, worked at McDonald’s, napped in my car between classes, and learned from truly outstanding professors who broadened my perspective and challenged me, especially in humanities and Spanish.
With guidance from Chabot’s academic advising team, I clarified my career goals, chose San Diego State and a major in Management Information Systems, and went on to earn an MBA from UC San Diego.
Today, I’m a VP of Fintech and Digital Solutions at a credit union technology company, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am without the foundation, support, and dedication I received at Chabot. Decades later, I remain deeply grateful and want to thank the educators and professionals whose work continues to make such a lasting impact on students and communities. |
